Duo Mader/Papandreopoulos (finalists Dutch Classical Talent 2022), Fly Theatre and four composers present an audiovisual interpretation of the story collection Nachtstücke (The Night Pieces) by German writer and composer E.T.A. Hoffmann. These classic horror stories, pregnant with doom and obsession, form the basis for a fascinating gesamtkunstwerk.
Four composers wrote pieces for piano and saxophone based on Hoffmann’s dark and sinister work. Visual artist Maxime Weinmann creates live projections that create a play of light and shadow with the space and the performers.
Der Sandmann is a co-production of Duo Mader/Papandreopoulos, Gaudeamus and Mierscher Kulturhaus (LUX) and was created with support from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and the Bundesministerium für Kunst und Kultur.
